To assist in the planning, provision, development and delivery of activity sessions and work training skills sessions for learners requiring one to one support.

Main Objectives:

  • To be an integral member of a small flexible team ensuring that accessibility and wellbeing of the learners are met at all times.

Summary of Duties

  • Take part and work as part of a team to ensure that the daily sessions and activities run smoothly and meet the needs of the learners.
  • To plan or help to plan the education sessions, including the setting of goals and targets to help the learners to develop their talents and skills.
  • Ensure paperwork (session plans and schemes of work, risk assessments) relating to sessions is completed in a correct and timely manner.

About the opportunity

We are looking for confident and enthusiastic individuals to wear our loveable mascot costume and entertain children (and adults!) at our fundraising and awareness events. You will bring Blu the SNAP Dragon to life, making sure as many people as possible know about the work we are doing at MK SNAP!

Activities include:

  • Dressing up as Blu (costume and support provided)
  • Waving to children, shaking hands and interacting with people in our community including children and young people
  • Posing for photos
  • Handing out flags, stickers and other promotional material
  • Taking part in bucket collections
  • Attending centre and cafe openings, festivals, schools and fundraising events as required
  • Participating in Mascot events such as Mascot race and Mascot Olympics.

Skills and Experience

  • Good at using own initiative
  • Access to a car or local transport

When & Where

Opportunities to volunteer will be on an ad hoc basis throughout the year and could be on occasional weekends. We will give you plenty of notice about upcoming opportunities and will not expect you to be available for all of them.

We know that mascot costumes can be very warm so you will only be expected to wear them for short periods of time at each event. Appearances could be across the MK region!

Practical Considerations

  • Be a minimum of 16 years old
  • Height must be between 5ft 6inches and 5ft 10 inches
  • Good level of fitness as mascot costume is quite heavy
  • Police check/DBS check is required for this role (organised by MK SNAP in line with our Safer Recruitment Policy)

Extra SNAP is a new pilot programme providing extra time sessions for adults with a range of learning disabilities through Breakfast and After SNAP clubs three days per week and include fun social activities and refreshments.

Main Objectives:

Summary of Duties

  • Organise and work with the EXTRA SNAP Assistant as part of a team to ensure that the daily sessions and activities start on time, run smoothly and meet the needs of the learners.
  • Ensure paperwork, including risk assessments and registers, relating to sessions are completed in a correct and timely manner.
  • To assist in the identification of additional activities required for learners to enable progression, self-reliance, flexibility, confidence building and improvement in life and social skills.
  • To comply with all MK Snap policies and procedures.
  • Be prepared to attend any training courses/events as deemed necessary by the Head of Learner Services.
  • Key holder responsibilities ensure that the building is locked and unlocked safely at opening times and closing down
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety policies and procedures are carried out and adhered to.
  • To raise aspirations, inspire and continually improve outcomes and quality in delivery.
  • To participate in team and performance review meetings.
  • To deputise where required and act as an outstanding ambassador for the organisation

Salary: £12.00 to £13.00 per hour which includes key holder responsibilities

Hours per week:  30 hours to be worked flexibly across the week 8am -4pm with an unpaid 45 minute lunch break. Additional hours as required including any call outs.

Overall Objective: 

To provide caretaking and security services for the centre and grounds and to carry out routine checks and general maintenance to ensure the smooth running of the facilities including key holder responsibilities.

Main Objectives

To maintain the centre, equipment and grounds, safely and securely for the benefit of the learners, staff and other centre users

Summary of Duties

  • Carrying out general maintenance tasks as required; including removal of rubbish and keeping the site clear
  • Monitoring the site security CCTV and organising the alarm contract maintenance checks
  • Coordinating site visitors for general contract maintenance (IT, Electrical, Fire Equipment) throughout the year.
  • Ordering kit and equipment for classrooms and cleaning kit
  • Setting out furniture for events and activities as required
  • Emergency cleaning tasks which may include removal of bodily fluids safely
  • Understanding fire safety regulations, Health and Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating a building
  • Unlocking and locking up of the building and grounds as required and occasional support for external users evenings & weekends
  • Basic Minibus maintenance

Essential

  • Experience in a caretaking, logistics or similar role
  • Able to positively encourage and communicate with adults with learning disabilities
  • Strong levels of personal integrity and commitment to safeguarding
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to co-ordinate and prioritise workload
  • Able to operate a fork lift truck and appropriately qualified
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety
  • Full driving licence (preferably with a D1 or minibus qualification)

  • Qualification in a relevant subject
